Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/ Douglas County (CAC) has put the finishing touches on a comprehensive set of summer experiences for local children. The CAC understands that finding the perfect summer day camp for a creative child can be a particular challenge, but with so many arts camps, classes, and events already planned for the season, parents can find the perfect fit at the CAC.
Summer arts education comes in many forms from the CAC. As always, various one day workshops and classes are offered, but for youngsters who have extra time in the summer, the following very special arts experiences provide longer term day camp instruction from local arts teachers.
- The theme of this year’s CAC Summer Arts Camp is “Find Your Treasure.” Participants will create pirate themed art and theater projects while discovering the true treasures of friendship, creativity, and learning that a CAC arts camp provides. Painting, drawing, sculpture, singing, dancing, and more will be explored under the guidance of experienced local teachers. This year’s Summer Arts Camp is a five-day camp taking place at Hunter Park from June 2 – 6 between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm. Activities are suitable for children aged 7-12.
- “Movie Talk” Camp introduces students to the world of film. This one-of-a-kind program delves into every aspect of filmmaking, from writing scripts to acting, directing,
videography, and stage makeup. Taught by local instructors from Lift2Enrich, this camp is a fun and educational way for participants to fuel their passion for cinema, enhance their storytelling skills, and explore exciting career opportunities. Movie Talk Camp is a five-day camp taking place at the CAC from July 7-11 between the hours of 9 am and 2:30 pm. “Movie Talk” Camp is recommended for children aged 7-12.
- The CAC’s brand-new Fashion Design Camp is a two-week, intensive, design and sewing course culminating in a fashion show for family and friends on the final day. Taught by local designer Natisa Williams of Sewfluent, this Fashion Design camp has been carefully designed to be both affordable and suitable for inexperienced or intermediate students. June and July sessions are available for added flexibility. The June sessions will take place at the CAC from June 9-20, and the July sessions are scheduled to be held from July 7-18. All sessions run from 9 am to 2 pm.
- For children who would enjoy trying out a variety of different artistic mediums, the CAC offers a “Summer Sampler Arts Camp” which is comprised of five, five-hour sessions. Students will learn about a different art form each day of the week under the tutelage of a different teacher. By the end of the week, students will have experienced painting, drawing, sculpture, dancing, singing, acting, and sewing. The 2025 Summer Sampler Camp is scheduled to run from July 21-25 at the CAC between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm. Activities are suitable for children aged 7-12.
Ideally, summertime is a season of relaxed growth for children. It’s a time for imagination and play without so many obligations. It’s also a time to focus learning on areas beyond the standard curriculum. Art, theater, and film are worthwhile skills to learn, but they are also relaxed, imaginative and playful; a perfect fit for the vibe of summer learning. Join the CAC to make this year’s summer break particularly meaningful. Interested community members can learn about all the CAC offers at artsdouglas.org.
