1st Place – Chantelle Chapman

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/ Douglas County (CAC) proudly presented cash prizes and ribbons to four artists on the evening of Thursday, September 11. Over one hundred artworks were submitted to the 2026 National Juried Arts Show (NJAS), and three credentialed judges selected the final seventy-eight artworks; as many artworks as could be fit on the historical gallery walls. Amazon sponsored the CAC’s cash prizes, and exhibit hosts Douglas County Art Guild presented their own Special Prize to a work of their choosing. Each year, the NJAS collection boasts one of the CAC’s most diverse and surprising collections of art. In addition to the prizes issued at the exhibit reception, visitors to the CAC will vote for their favorite piece throughout the course of the exhibit. The votes will be counted, and the People’s Choice winner will be determined on October second. Locals are encouraged to make a free visit to the CAC to view the exhibit and vote for their favorites.

All three judges mentioned the difficulties they faced when having to apply points to the unique vision of each artist. Each judge thoroughly enjoyed their tour of the competing works, with all judges taking the time to carefully assess the pieces against the award criteria. Chantelle Chapman won 1st Place for her gouache on paper painting “They’ll Tell You It’s Dangerous (Scarlet Kingsnake),” which displayed extreme proficiency with a difficult medium as well as emotional impact through its sensitive treatment of a
