Stephen Armstrong will teach you how to use your DSLR camera in manual mode (personal camera required) as well as the basics of composition for your images. This hands-on course teaches about shutter and aperture and understanding the elements of exposure, but will also support students in the application of their skills with a casual and constructive critique by the end of the week.
The course will take place over the period of one week, meeting on Monday, July 18 and then again on Friday, July 22, 6:00-7:30 pm. Whether beginner or refreshing on knowledge, the first day will consist of a photography field trip to learn the functions of the camera. From Tuesday to Thursday students will be able to practice their newfound knowledge and collect photographs for review. After selecting your most prized photographs for the week, students will receive a casual and constructive critique of their photos on Friday, aiding the understanding and application of what they have learned. Students will receive individual recommendations about where their picture-taking needs improvement, and in which direction they should “focus” as they move forward with photography.
Whether beginner or intermediate, this is a course that will help students fine tune the basics of photography, but also offer the one-on-one attention of how to improve their current level. Students will gain a better understanding of how to see through their lens compositionally, how to improve concept, and what he/she should work to improve on an individual level.
