Descendants Ascending: Exhibit in Honor of Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month Tracy Murrell, Jess Hill, Francine Stowe-Sinkler, Jan Hollins, and Mia Anika exhibit artwork in the collection on display from January 9 to February 17, 9 am to 5 pm. “Descendants Ascending” celebrates heritage, history, female empowerment, and the undeniable stories within our blood. Whether talent, strength, ability, vision, or expression, the art we make comes from an innate place inside each of us, driven by the past of our people and the future of our world. Reverberating the theme of individuality is the variety of mediums in the exhibit, from paint to printmaking and textiles. The theme emerges that what unites us most are our differences. Absorb the vision and bask in the reception on Saturday, January 28 from 5-7 pm, hosted by Douglas County Connection.

Spring Break Arts Camp at Boundary Waters

CAC’s Spring Break Arts Camp keeps your child active and engaged during the break in a fun exploration of the arts while maintaining educational impact. Both performing and visual artist instructors develop a theme and engage the students in creating works around that theme. The multi-dimensional instruction keeps students coming back year after year. The 2023 Spring Break Arts Camp takes place April 3 – 7 and is held at Boundary Waters Activity Center from 9-4 daily (with early drop-off and late pick-up available) and is for ages 7-12 years old.  Cost is $135 ($125 CAC members).

The CAC celebrates domesticated companionship this coming Spring when four artists paint vivid, bright-colored animals to bring light to your life. Susan Burns, Gwen Wong, Nancy Long, and Lacy Freeman use brushstrokes to create the most precious textures and personalities of all. View the collection of furry, feathery, and finned friends on display April 6-27, 9 am—5 pm. Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, April 8, from 2-4 pm, hosted by the Optimist Club of Douglas County. The local animal shelter will be at the CAC with pets available for adoption…or just a little attention.
