Be the Winner of the CAC’s 8th Annual Scarecrow Contest!

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/ Douglas County (CAC) in partnership with Keep Douglasville Beautiful, is proud to present their 8th Annual Scarecrow Contest. The CAC is calling on all sports teams, non-profits, schools, businesses, and churches to create their very best scarecrow for cash prizes and bragging rights! The 8th Annual Scarecrow Contest will be offering prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as a special “People’s Choice” award based on guest votes.

This year will be a particular big one for scarecrows as the 30th annual Chili Cook Off is being held at both Douglas County High School and the CAC where the scarecrows are displayed.  Guests at the festival will have an opportunity to vote for the favorite scarecrow creation to be the “People’s Choice” winner.  Be a major part of the Fall season this year, and channel your autumn creativity to brighten up Douglasville! Work with your team to create a scarecrow that reflects the best qualities of your church, organization, business, or family! The contest is free to enter, and registration forms and contest rules are available at artsdouglas.org.

All entry forms are due no later than September 23rd. Scarecrows will be on display from October 1 – 31st at the Cultural Arts Center on Campbellton Street. The awards, aside from “People’s Choice,” will be announced at the CAC’s 30th annual Chili Cook Off fundraiser on Saturday, October 17th on the front porch of the CAC. Winners do not have to be present to win. Guests at the Chili Cook Off and Fall Festival will have an opportunity to view and vote for all of the competing scarecrows. So, creators are encouraged to attend and enjoy the fun of seeing people view their work.

Scarecrows will be judged based on a combination of theme, presentation/appearance, and durability by a panel of judges from the CAC’s Public Art Committee. Bonus points will be given to scarecrow displays that are made up of recyclable elements. The People’s Choice Award will be given when the scarecrow display is finished, and all votes have been counted. Email luciana.vinci@artsdouglas.org or call (770) 949-2787 to get started!
