Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/Douglas County announces the 30th Annual Chili Cook Off on Saturday, October 17th from 5 pm until 9 pm at Douglas County High School and the Cultural Arts Center. Guests will enjoy tasting a huge variety of local chili, and awards will be handed out for Best Tasting Chili, Spiciest Chili, Most Sold, and Best Booth Presentation.
Over the course of three decades, the Chili Cook Off has become a Douglasville tradition, one that originated on the front porch of the Arts Center in 1997. This year, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the festival and the 40th anniversary of the CAC, the event has been expanded into a four-hour Chili Cook Off & Fall Festival bringing together art and dessert vendors in addition to the chili competition that locals have come to expect. For the very first time, winners will receive cash prizes along with bragging rights.
Other features of this year’s special event include the annual costume contest which will take place on the CAC front porch and include all
age groups. There will also be prizes for best group costume and best pet costume. For the first time, the CAC is planning to host a haunted house in the art center Wynn Building, and there will be a free-to-tour fine art photography exhibit, a DJ playing tunes, yard games, and more. In addition, all children dressed in costumes will receive goody bags full of cool stuff.
This year’s Cook Off & Fall Festival is shaping up to be the biggest and best that the CAC has hosted. With many added features and a longer duration, the event has been carefully designed to have something for everyone from young to old. Proceeds from the Chili Cook Off help the CAC provide high-quality art classes and programs, including the CAC’s “ARTSventures” program that brings curriculum-based performances to local schools.
The event has been graciously made possible by Presenting Sponsor Renewal by Anderson, with additional generous contributions from Amazon, Connally, Jordan & Associates, P.C., Dave Grant State Farm, Douglas County Department of Transportation, Douglas County Museum of History and Art, Elevate Douglas, Georgia Power, Google, GreyStone Power Corporation, HRC Engineers, Surveyors & Landscape Architects, Kaiser Permanente, Novel Douglasville, Premier Association Management, Stream Data Centers, The Self- Esteem School, West Georgia Technical College, and Zeta Phi Beta.
