Artist Opportunities Awaken
Calling all artists! As community rekindles, the CAC offers many opportunities for artists of all calibers to make a fresh start moving forward again. There are opportunities to display art in a variety of measures, some as small as 6×6 and some as big as…well, a billboard!
The annual National Juried Art Show in September is a source of amazement as artists are welcome from far and wide to showcase their best work in aspirations of placing first, second, third, or honorable mention. The exhibit is juried by three credible judges with monetary prizes awarded upon the reception evening of September 3. All mediums (except film and music) are acceptable, with a limit of three artworks submitted per artist and a fee for submission. For submission details and further information, see our website Artsdouglas.org at https://artsdouglas.org/national-juried-art-show/ or email Brittany.gilbert@artsdouglas.org.
In July and August, a tradition reunites as everyone from the community—from renowned artists to aspiring youth alike—is invited to display 6×6 canvases alongside one another in the community gallery of the CAC center. Canvases are provided to the public and available for pick-up starting May 4. You need only stir up the artist within you to create a unique piece of art for display, and return the finished canvas to the center by July 1 and 2. Each artwork will be sold for $20.00 to support your local arts center and the programs it provides. Gain recognition from your community as an artist, support other local artists, and start collecting work for your personal gallery at home. Be creative in your generosity, and generous in your creativity! Mini receptions will be offered to the community to view the showcase every Thursday, from 5-7 pm, during the dates spanning the exhibit. And last, but definitely not least, in an opportunity of grandiose proportions (literally), the CAC is elated with anticipation at Douglasville’s first ever ArtPop Billboard competition. The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/ Douglas County has partnered with ArtPop Street Gallery and Douglas County Travel and Tourism to bring this amazing public art program to Georgia, Metro Atlanta, and Douglas County. ArtPop ATL will shine the spotlight on talented artists by placing their work on traditional static & digital billboards as well as displays at the ATL Airport. Work from 30 artists will be selected by the ArtPop ATL selection committee in a blind jury process. The call for submissions opens April 6 and submissions are due by May 23 at 11:59 pm. Winners will be announced the week of June 1. For more submission guidelines and details, visit our website Artsdouglas.org at https://artsdouglas.org/artpop/.
