The annual Chili Cook Off Returns for its 27th Year

The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/Douglas County announces the 27th  Annual Chili Cook Off at O’Neal Plaza on Saturday, October 21st from 6 pm until 9 pm. The event is sponsored by Lithia Springs Ford, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Chapel Hill News & Views, Elevate Douglas, Armstrong Photo Gallery, Extreme Images, Awards Systems, Greystone Power Corporation, Connally Jordan, And Associates, & Pepsi. Awards will be handed out for best tasting chili, spiciest chili, most sold, and best booth presentation.

A “Spooky Season” Tradition

Over the course of two decades, the Chili Cook Off has become a Douglasville tradition, one that originated on the front porch of the Arts Center in 1997.  In 2022, more than 4,000 people joined in this festive evening of good food and family fun when many local Douglasville celebrities, political candidates, and local business leaders presented the community with over two dozen different flavors of chili to savor.

Halloween, also called “All Hallows Eve”, is a time of celebration and superstition. Today’s Halloween customs are a melting pot of many different cultures & traditions from around the world. People will light bonfires, wear costumes to ward off ghosts and go trick-or-treating for candy as Fall ushers in the winter season.  In the spirit of the season, the Chili Cook Off will have a costume contest for kids, adults, and pets, and a brand-new group category! Judges will select winners from the various groups. Each child in costume will receive a goody bag.

Chili- For a Good Cause

Proceeds from Chili Cook Off help the CAC provide high-quality art classes and programs, including the CAC’s “ARTSventures” program where artists provide curriculum-based performances to schools. This year’s Cook-Off plans are to have great weather, lots of chili eaters, and Fall fun!
