CAC’s Summer Arts Camp a festive success!

Douglasville, Georgia – Friday, June 23rd was the finale and culmination of a week long Summer Arts Camp for 38 youngsters ages 7-11. About 150 parents and friends and neighbors attended and enjoyed a boisterous show and exhibit at Hunter Park where the camp had been hosted. Along with parents and families, Douglas County Commission Chair Dr. Romona Jackson-Jones and a contingent of about 25% of the CAC Board of Directors also attended. more>>

Summer Colors Exhibit: Featuring Fiona Dennis, Ernie Hendrix, and Marilyn Weidenaar

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/Douglas County will exhibit new and recent works by artists Fiona Dennis, Ernie Hendrix, and Marilyn Weidenaar during the months of June and July. The exhibit kicks off with an opening reception hosted by the Pilot Club on Thursday, June 1st from 6 until 8 p.m., at the Cultural Arts Council and it will be on view through July 26th. Fiber Mania Exhibit: Featuring Sally Austin, Annie Greene, and Trish Warner

Super Me” Flies Into Douglasville

Douglasville, Georgia – on Saturday, March 25th at 4pm, Story Ship Theatre will bring its multi-disciplinary theatre program, “Super Me” to Douglasville at Brighten Academy for a free family show. 2017 Youth Art Month Exhibit: United Through Art

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/ Douglas County welcomes the annual Youth Art Month exhibit – which features K-12 student art from the following Douglas County schools: Douglas County, Lithia Springs, and Alexander High; Chapel Hill, Chestnut Log, and Yeager Middle; Mt. Carmel, Holly Springs, Annette Winn, Factory Shoals, Mason Creek, Lithia Springs, Beulah, Winston, East Side, and North Douglas Elementary schools. The 2017 Youth Art Month (YAM): United Through Art exhibit is on display from March 2nd through the 29th. The Douglas County Student Holiday Card Show

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/Douglas County presents more than 150 holiday card designs created by elementary, middle, and high school students from 29 Douglas County Schools in its annual holiday card competition. New this year, art teachers will be showing their own artistic skills by displaying a design of their own. The opening reception, hosted by the Junior League of Douglas County, will be held on Thursday, December 1st, from 6 until 8 p.m. for participating students, teachers, and their families. 20th Annual Chili Cook-Off was a festive,
convivial celebration!

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County hosted its 20th Annual Chili Cook Off on Saturday, October22nd and the hungry hordes descended on downtown Douglasville. Twenty-five chili booths hosted by political candidates and local businesses and area service clubs competed for bragging rights of being the best chili, the spiciest chili and the having the most sold chili. The best decorated booth was also highly competitive and a costume contest for all ages was also held as the crowd happily worked their way through hundreds of gallons of chili. more>>

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County presents the Mad Hatter’s DINNER Party on Saturday, November 12th at the Douglasville Conference Center starting at 6pm. It is the CAC’s annual GALA, this year themed to honor the annual Mad Hatter’s Tea Party spring event that CAC has hosted for almost three decades to the enjoyment of multiple generations of families as they entered Lewis Carroll’s enchanted world. Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County celebrates one of the world’s fastest growing art forms – photography – with recent works by members of the Sweetwater Camera Club during the months of October and November. Hosted by the Douglas County Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (A.B.W.A.), the free opening reception will be held on Thursday, October 6th from 6 until 8 p.m., at the Cultural Arts Council. The Arts Council Hosts its 5th Annual NOVAS Exhibit

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County is proud to announce the 5th Annual National Open Visual Arts Show, otherwise known as NOVAS 2016. The exhibit will feature works in a variety of media – including but not limited to oil, photography, bronze, iron, ceramics, watercolor, mixed-media, fused glass, and acrylic – from 56 artists across 5 states. The exhibit opened on Thursday, September 1st and runs through the 29th. The awards reception, hosted by the Douglas County Art Guild (a local arts organization and CAC satellite), will be held on Thursday, September 8th from 6 until 8 p.m., at the Cultural Arts Council. Douglas County Art Guild: A Group Exhibit

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County presents recent works by members of the Douglas County Art Guild during the months of April and May. The exhibit will feature works in a variety of media– including acrylic, photography, screen-print, mixed-media, fused glass, oil, and watercolor. The exhibit opens on Thursday, April 7th and will remain on view through May 20th. Big Chicken Barbershop Chorus to Perform in Douglasville

2016 Youth Art Month Exhibit: Save the Earth

Family ArtVentures! Program to Start

Douglasville, Georgia – A new program of the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville is set to begin next week.
Family ArtVentures! is a new program designed to introduce performing artists into the school with curricula-based programs, followed by an appearance at a public event for children and adults alike to enjoy. Family ArtVentures! starts with four musical puppet performances being done by the Piccadilly Puppet Company. Their show, “Splish, Splash,” explores our most precious resource in a fun and educational way. Large hand-puppets are used in the Australian folktale of “Tiddalick the Frog” and the Creek legend “Rabbit Plays Tug-of-War,” which demonstrate that water is important to all cultures. The original shadow puppet piece, “The Adventures of Drip and Drop,” shows the water-cycle from the point of view of the raindrops. As the closing song says, “Everybody needs a little water!” more>>

The Student Holiday Card Exhibit

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County presents more than 130 holiday card designs created by elementary, middle, and high school students from 22 Douglas County Schools in its annual competition. Hosted by the Douglas County Rotary Club, West GA Tech, and Chick-fil-A on Thornton Rd., the opening reception will be held on Thursday, December 3rd, from 6 until 8 p.m. for participating students, teachers, and their families. The 19th Annual Chili Cook-Off Was a Huge Success!

Douglasville, Georgia – On Saturday, October 24th, Douglasville’s biggest block party crowded into O’Neal Plaza in downtown Douglasville with chili fans busy sampling the best from over two dozen participants. By all accounts the packed Plaza held the biggest crowd in recent memory. Chili, costumes, rivalries and camaraderie – all packed into every available space on a beautiful evening in Douglasville! This event, produced by the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County is both a fund-raising event for the Arts Council and a grand community tradition and celebration. Douglasville, Georgia - The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County is hosting its eleventh annual gala, “A Cultured Pearl Celebration,” commemorating 30 years of arts services to our community, at the Centre at Arbor Connection on Saturday, November 14th, from 6 until 10 p.m. The 2015 festivities will include an elegant buffet catered by Sam & Rosco’s, sophisticated live music during dinner and afterwards for dancing featuring JCRU Jazz Band, silent and live auctions (including vacation getaways, pearls, collectibles, and fine artworks created by local artists), and a cash bar throughout the evening. Mad Hatter’s Tea Party – Joyous and Sold Out!

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County hosted its annual Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in 2015 with some changes. This year the entire event was held outdoors as a garden party and it quickly sold out. more>>

The crowds at the Tea Party enjoyed flamingo croquet, sing alongs, storytelling, face painting, cookie decorating, an egg hunt, a performance by “Words in Motion,” and bows aplenty from Kaylee’s Bows.

Celebrating Black History Month: Images of African-American Life in Georgia

Douglasville, Georgia – In celebration of Black History Month, the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County is partnering with the Auburn Avenue Research Library to present Photography on the Color Line, a photographic exhibition on the lives and achievements of African American Georgians at the turn of the twentieth century. In conjunction with the photograph collection, local artist Evon Strickland will exhibit a selection of family portraits done in crochet;
and, local artist John Martin will display a selection of his pen & ink drawings of famous African-Americans. The exhibit opens on Thursday, January 15th and will remain on view through February 22nd. Hosted by the Douglas County Connections, the opening reception will be held Saturday, January 31st, from 6 until 9 p.m. at the Cultural Arts Council. Recent Works by Members of the Sweetwater Camera Club

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County presents recent works by members of the Sweetwater Camera Club during the month of October. Exhibiting more than 70 photographs by the group, the exhibit opens on Thursday, October 2nd, and will be on view through October 31st at the Cultural Arts Council. Hosted by the American Business Women’s Association (A.B.W.A.), the opening reception will be on Thursday, October 2nd from 6 until 8 p.m.,

The Big Chicken Beatles Band brings back the Beatles sounds on October 11th!

Douglasville, Georgia – On Saturday, October 11th at 7pm on O’Neal Plaza will be a commemoration of the 50th year of the Beatles hitting the American shores when The Big Chicken Beatles Band takes the stage. Nicolette Dunn & Marjorie Foster September Exhibit

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County presents recent works by Nicolette Dunn and Marjorie Foster during the month of September. Exhibiting more than 50 works by the two artists, the exhibit opens on Thursday, September 4th, and will be on view through September 26th at the Cultural Arts Council. CROSSROADS: Where Art & History Meet

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County announces the reception for CROSSROADS: Where Art & History Meet at the Cultural Arts Council on Thursday, July 24th, from 6 until 8 p.m. The exhibit is a retrospective show of the CAC’s permanent collection featuring some of the earliest acquired pieces, as well as highlighting some of the more recent acquisitions. A special bonus: a book signing by Lisa Land Cooper, blogger, columnist and author of Douglasville – the new book from Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America series. 2014 TURNER CASSITY LITERARY FESTIVAL AT CAC:
The 4th Annual Writers Event Honoring Southern Poet Offered in July 2014

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County presents the 4th annual Turner Cassity Literary Festival in Douglasville on July 11th , 12th and 13th at the Cultural Arts Center. The festival, in keeping with Turner Cassity’s literary legacy, provides aspiring writers of all levels an opportunity to develop their writing skills and prepare their works for publication under the guidance of expert and experienced authors. This year’s featured workshop authors include Dr. Stan Galloway, Virginia educator and poet with over 80 published poems; Janice Hardy, author of the teen fantasy trilogy The Healing Wars; Hank Kimmel, president and co-founder of Atlanta’s own Working Title Playwrights theatre company; Bryan Powell, a local writer and public speaker with over 15 novels to his credit; and Ruth Watson, an Atlanta-based freelance writer, historical novelist and children’s author, whose articles have appeared in Upscale and The Atlanta Journal Constitution. more>>

Georgia Artists with Disabilities
Award-Winning Art Exhibit to Visit Douglasville

Douglasville, Georgia – Approximately 50 award-winning pieces of art from disabled artists across Georgia will be on display June 8-July 11 at the Georgia Artists with Disabilities, Inc.'s 29th annual statewide tour and exhibit at the Cultural Arts Council, 8652 Campbellton St. The entries in the 2013-14 exhibit include paintings, photographs, clay pottery, mosaics, textiles and other mediums considered fine art. The nine-city tour kicked off in Moultrie in September and ends in Douglasville. more>>

Douglas County Art Guild: A Group Exhibition

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County presents a group exhibition during the month of May by the Douglas County Art Guild, a CAC satellite. The exhibit will feature recent works in a variety of mediums by the guild members – including acrylic, photograph, screenprint, fused glass, watercolor, oil and multimedia. The exhibition opens on Thursday, May 1st
and will be on view through May 30th. The opening reception, hosted by the Sweetwater Camera Club
(a local photography group and fellow CAC satellite) will be on Thursday, May 1st from 6 until 8 p.m., at the Cultural Arts Council. Reception, gallery admission, and tours are free and open to the general public. more>>

Tom Butler & Mike Nalley April Exhibit

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County presents recent works by Tom Butler and Mike Nalley during the month of April. Exhibiting more than 50 works by the two artists, the exhibition opens on Thursday, April 3rd, and will be on view through April 25th at the Cultural Arts Council. Hosted by the Douglas County Chamber Singers, the exhibit reception will be on Thursday, April 3rd from 6 until 8 p.m., at the Cultural Arts Council. Dulcimer player and music teacher at the Cultural Arts Council, Tom Stavran will perform alongside guest guitarist Ellen Downing. On Sunday, April 27th, from 3 until 5 p.m., a special gallery talk and exhibition tour will be offered. Gallery admission, tour and reception are free and open to the general public. more>>

The Mad Hatter Invites you to his Tea Party, April 5th!

Douglasville, Georgia –The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, an annual favorite, returns to the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County on Saturday, April 5th with two sessions, from 10:30am-Noon and from 1:30-3:00pm. This Spring celebration for children and families is presented in partnership with the Douglas County Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association. The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party is a fun and creative opportunity for children from three to ten years old to have an inter-active activity, based on Lewis Carroll’s classic, Alice in Wonderland. Tickets are $20 for the first child and accompanying adult; $10 for each additional child or additional adult. more>>

CAC’s 11th Annual Arts Camp at Deer Lick Park

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/ Douglas County and the Douglas County Department of Parks and Recreation join forces once again to offer the eleventh annual intensive arts camp Motion + Emotion + Commotion at Deer Lick Park, from Monday, April 7th, through Friday, April 11th. Children, 7 – 11 years old, will spend a productive spring break exploring a wide variety of art disciplines with five expert and experienced teaching artists. more>>

2014 Youth Art Month Activities

Youth Art Month is a national celebration of the artistic talents of children and young adults. Since it began in 1961 it has been a program of The National Art Education Association and arts organizations all across the country host special commemorative events. Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council presents classical pianist George Mann as the performing artist for 2014 Kinna Chamber Concert. Mann will be performing at Cultural Arts Center on Saturday, February 15th, at 7 p.m. Tickets for the Kinna Chamber Concert are available for $15 a person, $12 for CAC members and $5 for students and music teachers. more>>

BLACK HISTORY MONTH EXHIBITIONS:
Works from Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Guild
& Gullah Master Jery B. Taylor

Douglasville, Georgia – The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville and Douglas County, Inc., presents recent works by members of the Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Guild and Gullah artist Jery B. Taylor during January and February in celebration of Black History Month. The exhibition features two of the most established African-American crafts - quilting by members of the Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Guild and basket weaving by South Carolina native Jery B. Taylor. The show will be on view through February 24th at the Cultural Arts Center. Hosted by the Douglas County Connection, the reception will be on Saturday, January 25th, from 6 until 9 p.m. Jazz pianist Rico Henry will be performing during the reception. CAC HIRES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:
Davina Grace Hill Assumes Local Arts Leadership Position

Douglasville, Georgia – The Board of Directors of the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County is delighted to announce that Davina Grace Hill has been hired as its new Executive Director following a national search for qualified candidates conducted this fall.
